We still need volunteers at the 9th World POPS Meet & Championships

Toogoolawah Queensland Australia - Friday 25th April to Saturday 3rd May 2008

We need more names however; please read this and send us your details as requested below.

Volunteers are needed for various duties at this international skydiving competition and festival. There are 9 competition events, as well as Formation Skydiving Record Attempts and boogie jumping. There will be an Opening Ceremony, Social Events & Outings [a visit to Australia Zoo is planned], and a Closing Ceremony & Presentation and Awards Dinner.

There will be jumpers from all over Australia and from around the world coming to Toogoolawah, already we have over 170 pre-registrations*, and we are just under 3 months out from the start date! [* including emailed statements of intention].

Volunteers are needed for such duties as:

  • Meet and Greet
  • Being a first point of contact & information for individual countries
  • Registration assistance & information
  • Gear checks
  • Manifest
  • Traffic/parking & visitor/spectator marshalls
  • Judging & competition event assistance including recording & scoreboard, set up & take down equipment eg. accuracy, Hit n Rock, crowd control,
  • Ground camera for competition events and other happenings
  • Camera for in plane & from inside exit shots
  • Load organisers for competition, FS record attempts, & boogie jumps
  • Cameraflyers for competition, FS record attempts, & boogie jumps
  • Messenger/Runner on DZ and/or courier for items for delivery to off site media
  • Off DZ pickups
  • Refueller/loader/making sure people get into the right plane/pulling the steps away [From Big Al: best suited for someone with a bit of energy and who knows a bit about skydiving and who's who.]
  • Load Organisers' assistance including collecting jump tickets, keeping tally of video etc.
  • Help with Social Activities including opening & closing ceremonies, nightly activities at DZ

    2. Your APF # and/or POPS Australia # -not essential - you can volunteer even if you are not an APF or POPS member, or over 40!!
    3. Your experience in volunteering particularly if you have volunteered at a skydiving event, and/or if you have specific experience or skills related to skydiving or a skydiving competition or event - again not essential for all volunteer work needed. 
    4. Your volunteer preferences ie. if there is anything in particular you are qualified for or would like to volunteer for, or if you are happy to be allocated duties as determined by the organiser
    5. When you would be available ie. for the duration of the event, before and/or after the event, specific dates only, etc.
    6. Your reason/s for wanting to help us at this event

    Selection of volunteers will be by POPS Australia in conjunction with Skydive Ramblers, and the decision will be final. Your response to this notice does not necessarily guarantee selection, or your preference/s.

    Australian POPS members & volunteers may be eligible for funding assistance from your Area Council. Most Area Councils have kindly offered to provide financial assistance for jumpers and/or volunteers who attend & participate at this event. To find out if your Area Council has agreed to do this, and the procedures involved, contact your Club Delegate or Board Representative. [Note this is not a pre-requisite for volunteering].
